This is not the best of Laramie

Hello peoplefriends!

Happy new year and stuff.

I've decided to spare you a list of The Best of Laramie from 2014. And no way do you need a list of my resolutions for 2015.

I honestly haven't made any resolutions. I had to will myself not to. Every year I make these big, impossible ones (Write every day. Exercise every day. LEAVE THE HOUSE EVERY DAY) and I fail immediately and then I'm miserable for the whole of January. Fuck that.

Here's to getting through the next 31 days without beating ourselves up.

This month in tacos: We've been up on the Northwest Coast of Canada, visiting my dad, and a few days ago we went to the beach to pick oysters. Way too many oysters. The first night we ate them on the half-shell, barely making a dent. The second night, I decided OYSTER TACOS and found this recipe on the good old interwebs. I made the rémoulade and Ricky fried the oysters and they were a hit. "These are the best oysters I've ever eaten!" said one member of our party, who may or may not have been stoned at the time.

[Note to the gluten-sensitive: As an experiment, Ricky made two batches of oysters, one dredged in straight cornmeal and one in a 50/50 mixture of cornmeal/all-purpose gluten-free flour. The mixture stuck to the oysters a little more successfully, but both were delicious.]
