LA premiere, Long Beach tacos 🎬🌮
Hello dear friends.
The world is falling apart, it seems. The US of A is coming off the rails. And here's me in my little house, head down, fixating on my to-do list. Movie things. Life things. More movie things. I heard recently, at some webinar or other, film distribution is not a thing you get, it's a thing you do. That is proving to be true.
I pulled out the index card to-do method on Monday, for the first time in a long time. There are also quite a few post-its posted around here. I'd been trying to pull back on PRODUCTIVITY, not let that be the end all be all, but dude sometimes you have to get shit done.
Maybe seeking order in my own little world is a method of coping. I'm sure it is.

Speaking of movie things: Where in the Hell is screening in LA!! Our "hilarious odd-couple road movie" is playing NewFilmmakers LA at 8pm on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at South Park Center downtown. Please come!! A ton of cast and crew and friends will be there, hanging out on the patio. Possibly we'll serve road snacks. Absolutely we'll hand out sticker emergency kits. Angelenos, it would help enormously if you bought your tickets now, right now, just do it, 🎟️ HERE'S THE LINK 😎
Also coming up: The Poppy Jasper International Film Festival 🙌🏼 We're screening at 3pm on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at The Barn at Mission Farm, San Juan Bautista, CA. Bay Area friends, please buy your tickets and come out!! It's not that close to the cit(ies), but it's sort of close? And the whole vibe of the festival is rad. Come out, and I’ll drag you to the parties after.
If you happen to be near Millinocket, ME, my mom is planning a screening there in June, to be co-hosted by the library and the local LGBTQ+ youth org.
Hit me up if you'd like to host a screening! This could be in-person or virtual, large or small. We're investigating all the possibilities, and scheming to do a virtual screening/celebration for Laramie Report readers in June or July. Stay tuned.

This month in tacos: R and I drove down to Long Beach to see some 16mm films at the adorable PLACE LB, and on the way we stopped at El Barrio Cantina. A+++ will go back every time, everything was excellent. The tlayuda, kind of a Mexican pizza, on a crisp, thin blue-corn crust, the nopal tiradito salad, with grilled cactus, cucumber, and an Asian-inflected citrus dressing, and THE TACOS Y'ALL.
