fledgling season, upcoming events

Hello premium subscribers!! That's ALL OF YOU.

Many of you probably got the "You received a gift subscription" email yesterday. The newsletter is still free for everyone, but I’ve added a “paywall” non-subscribers will bump up against if they scan the archive. This was trickier to pull off than I'd envisioned, and Buttondown’s system decided that legacy subscribers deserved an extra-official welcome 🙄

Anyhoo hi hello how are you holding up?

I'm a little overwhelmed. By personal stuff. By what's going on in the world, and in LA. I'm grateful to be safe on Denman Island (not that I personally was/would be in any danger), but also feeling a pang of disconnect.

It's fledgling season here, and adolescent ravens SHRIEK in the trees outside the house. I've been shrieking back at them occasionally. They don't seem to mind.

In lieu of a more in-depth report on me, some upcoming events for June:

June 10-11, FULL MOON. It's gonna be a good one—the lowest full moon in 20 years. Go out and catch the moonrise tonight! (The Farmer’s Almanac can tell you precisely what time.)

June 12 + 15, EUPHORIC screens at the deadCenter Film Festival in Oklahoma City, OK. This is the short film I produced alongside Cam Killion (star of WHERE IN THE HELL), who also wrote, directed, and starred in the short. 8pm on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Rodeo Cinema: Film Row, and 12:45pm on Sunday, June 15, at Harkins Theatres Bricktown 16 - Auditorium 13. Buy tickets here.

June 14, EUPHORIC screens at NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. We had a great time at the festival in April when we screened WitH, highly recommend. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at South Park Center in DTLA, pre-reception at 4:45pm, showtime 5:15pm. Buy tickets here.

June 15, WHERE IN THE HELL will have a sneak preview at the Boreal Theater in Millinocket, ME, to benefit the Northern Maine Pride Ride. My mom is hosting, and she'll moderate a conversation afterward. Mainers, turn up to meet my mom!! Sunday, June 15, 2025 at 3pm at the Boreal Theater. Advanced tickets not required, but here's more info.

June 20, SUMMER SOLSTICE, I.E. the longest day of the year. This is my dad's favorite holiday. When I was a kid, witchy and witchy-adjacent folks used to gather around a bonfire on Denman Island to set intentions, then write them on a slip of paper and toss it in. No bonfires allowed in summer anymore, but maybe I'll set some intentions anyway.
