deadlines, junk food, and other news. did i just die inside? NOPE I DID NOT

HELLO MY FAVORITE PEOPLE

It's me again.

First off, thank you for subscribing to The Laramie Report. I got a flurry of YAY! Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and OH EM GEE YES responses to my hey-I'm-starting-a-newsletter email, and only one suggestion to name it "I just died inside." so. Success!

I've decided to write to you once a month, on the first of every month. That way you know what to expect, and I've got a deadline. I ♥ deadlines.

Thanks to the submission deadlines for this directing lab and this screenwriting competition, I managed to finish a big rewrite of a script I've been working on, on and off, for two years. It's a coming-of-age story about sex and science and ambition and heartbreak, set in the summer of 1963, and it's based on a novel by my very own mom. (That's her on the rhinoceros, with some about-to-be-Nobel-prize-winners.)

I also put the script, which is called Girl Pretending to Read Rilke, up on The Black List. If you're a member, or you know someone who is, you can check it out here.

Anyhoooo. I finished it! We finished it. I've already cycled through 12 hours of elation + five days of v. intense dicking around, and am happy to report I've come out the other side, ready to start a new project..........

This month in marriage: Ricker has declared he's no longer interested in television. HALP WHAT DO I DO

This month in tacos: Carne asada fries from Gus's Lunchbox. Okay, so they're not tacos, but they do come from a taco truck. If you're looking for disgustingly amazing, protein-laden junk food, available every night until 3am!, look no further. (Gus's mulitas are also top-notch. Go with the pastor.)

This month on Netflix: Eliza Hittman's It Felt Like Love, which felt slow at first but really stuck with me. It's beautifully shot, and there's a ballsy scene involving full-frontal male nudity that underscores how rarely sex + sex acts in the movies are portrayed from a female point of view.
